WHO IT'S FOR

Find out if TestOptim fits your team.

TestOptim is an AI agent that explores your web app like a real user, builds a map of its pages and flows, generates test cases, runs them in a real browser, and files issues with screenshots, steps and recordings. It is a strong fit for some teams and the wrong tool for others. Here is how to tell.

BUILT FOR

Teams where it pays off fastest

If one of these sounds like you, you are likely to see value in the first run.

Startups and small SaaS teams

Roughly 3 to 30 engineers, no dedicated QA, shipping weekly or faster.

YOU'LL RECOGNISE YOURSELF IF…

  • Founders or engineers click through the app by hand before a release
  • Customers report bugs you would have caught with another hour of checking
  • Nobody owns QA, so it gets squeezed when deadlines hit

What you get: An agent that explores your app and generates tests, so release checks stop depending on someone's spare afternoon.

Product teams with a shaky regression suite

Growing teams whose automated tests are missing, flaky or a chore to maintain.

YOU'LL RECOGNISE YOURSELF IF…

  • Playwright or Cypress tests are skipped or quarantined
  • Fixing selectors after every UI change eats into feature work
  • Nobody trusts a red build any more

What you get: Coverage without test code. There are no scripts to maintain, and you get issues with screenshots, steps and recordings.

Teams with revenue-critical flows

E-commerce, marketplaces, bookings, ordering, ticketing and subscriptions, where a broken flow costs money.

YOU'LL RECOGNISE YOURSELF IF…

  • Signup, cart and checkout have to work on every release
  • You have more than one role, such as buyer and seller, or admin and user
  • A bug in one flow can quietly cost you orders for days

What you get: Exploration across anonymous and logged-in journeys, per-role test accounts, and checks that run up to the payment step. The agent never completes a real payment, so point it at staging.

Agencies and studios

Teams maintaining several client web apps on retainers or fixed bids.

YOU'LL RECOGNISE YOURSELF IF…

  • Clients find the bugs before you do
  • Every project has its own login and quirks to remember
  • You cannot afford a QA hire per client

What you get: One workspace with a project per client app. Project limits by plan: Solo 2, Startup 5, Growth 15.

WORKS BEST WHEN

A quick checklist

You do not need all of these on day one, but the more you tick, the smoother your first run.

  • It runs in a browser

TestOptim drives a real browser, so any web app qualifies.

  • You have a staging or test URL

The agent avoids destructive actions like deleting, paying, logging out or changing passwords, but staging is still the right place to point it.

  • It can log in

Email or username with a password, an API key, or one-time codes. For codes, set a static test code or pause the run and enter the live one.

  • You have a test account per role

Credential profiles let you test as a buyer, a seller, an admin and so on.

  • Cloudflare is not a blocker

Cloudflare-protected sites are supported through verified bot signing.

Setting up logins? Add login credentials to a project.

NOT A FIT (YET)

When TestOptim is the wrong tool today

We would rather you know up front. If one of these is a hard requirement, another tool will serve you better right now.

  • Native mobile or desktop apps

iOS, Android and desktop apps are out of scope. TestOptim tests web apps in a browser.

  • API-only or backend services

If there is no UI to click through, there is nothing for the agent to explore.

  • SSO-only access with no test login

Apps reachable only through SAML or Okta need a test login with a password or one-time code first.

  • Magic-link-only login

Without a password or one-time code option, the agent cannot sign in.

  • Unit, load or performance testing

TestOptim runs end-to-end checks in a browser. It does not replace those tools.

  • Tests you own as code

TestOptim tests are not exported as code. If owning and versioning your suite is a requirement, it will not fit today.

  • Built-in scheduled runs

There is no built-in scheduler. Trigger runs from CI or the API on every deploy instead.

  • Mature in-house automation

A large QA team with strong automation may find TestOptim a complement rather than a replacement.

HOW TEAMS USE IT

Three typical setups

Illustrative scenarios, not customer stories.

01

A five-person SaaS team before Friday's release

Nobody has time for a full manual pass. They trigger a run from CI after each staging deploy and read the issues in the morning, with screenshots and steps attached, instead of clicking through every screen themselves.

02

A marketplace with buyers and sellers

They add a credential profile for each role. The agent explores signup, listing, cart and checkout as each one, stopping before payment, and files an issue when a role cannot complete its journey.

03

A studio running six client apps

Each client gets a project in the same workspace. After a client's deploy, a run from Slack with /testoptim run tells the team about regressions before the client opens the site.

Fit questions, answered

Do I need a QA team to use TestOptim?

No. It is built for teams without dedicated QA, and it also works alongside an existing QA team. Teams with mature in-house automation usually use it as a complement rather than a replacement.

Can TestOptim test my mobile app?

Not native iOS or Android apps. It tests web apps in a real browser. A responsive web app is fine; a native app is not.

Is it safe to run against my app?

The agent avoids destructive actions such as deleting data, paying, logging out and changing passwords, and it never completes real payments. We still recommend a staging or test environment.

What if my app is behind a login?

Email or username with a password, an API key and one-time codes are supported. For codes you can set a static test code or enter the live one when the run pauses. Apps reachable only through enterprise SSO or magic links need a test login first.

Can I run it on a schedule?

There is no built-in scheduler. Runs start manually, from CI through an API key, from Slack with /testoptim run, or through MCP. GitHub pushes can also trigger a fresh exploration.

Do I get the tests as code?

No. Tests live in TestOptim and are not exported as Playwright or Cypress code. If owning the test code is a requirement, it is not the right fit today.
